Crown Molding Installation Cost Per Linear Foot in St. Petersburg F
Share
Folks ask me all the time what crown molding really runs per linear foot around here. Not the national averages you see online. Actual numbers for St. Petersburg, Largo, Clearwater, and the rest of Pinellas.
Most jobs I do land somewhere in the $12 to $19 range installed. That covers solid material that holds up in our humidity plus the labor to get it right. A basic 12 by 12 room with around 48 feet usually comes in between roughly $576 and $912. Bigger profiles, taller ceilings, or multi-piece builds push it higher. Old crown removal adds a bit more.
What moves the number? Material first. Cheap MDF that swells after one rainy season costs less up front and more later. I lean toward primed pine, poplar, or moisture-resistant options that stay tight when the salt air and summer humidity hit. Labor is the other big piece. Coping inside corners properly, fastening into framing instead of just drywall, and dealing with the out-of-level ceilings common in older Pinellas homes takes time. I’ve watched too many installs gap open within a year because someone rushed the miters or skipped the flexible caulk.
Cathedral ceilings, lots of outside corners, or matching historic profiles in places like the Old Northeast all slow the work down. Same with rooms that need extra scribing because the house has settled.
I hate seeing homeowners get low-ball quotes that turn into headaches once the seasons change. Down here the wood moves. If the install doesn’t account for that, the joints open up and the caulk cracks. Been there enough times to know better.
