Short answer. Yes. It never really left. What changed is how we use it.

I’ve watched too many homes get stuck with the same heavy, ornate profiles from years back that feel out of place now. Or worse, bare ceilings that look unfinished once the paint dries. Down here the humidity and salt air already fight everything we install. The last thing you need is trim that fights the style of the house too.

The looks that hold up and still feel fresh are cleaner. Simple cove or flat profiles. Color drenching where the crown, walls, and sometimes the ceiling all share the same soft color so the room feels intentional instead of chopped up. Stacked molding on higher ceilings for a custom feel without going overboard. And more folks asking about subtle LED cove lighting tucked behind the profile for that soft evening glow. Those work great in living rooms and primary bedrooms around Pinellas Park and Seminole.

Traditional homes in places like Kenwood or Shore Acres still love a classic ogee. Newer builds and open floor plans lean modern and restrained. Either way the right scale matters. Too big and it crushes an 8-foot ceiling. Too skinny and it disappears.

I hate seeing good rooms lose character because someone decided trim was outdated. Proper crown still draws the eye up, hides those little wall-to-ceiling gaps our Florida houses develop, and just makes a space feel finished. Done right with moisture-smart materials it stays tight through rainy season after rainy season.
