How Do I Choose Between Different Baseboard Styles in St. Petersburg, FL

Hey folks, Josh here from Elite Carpentry Restorations in Lealman. People around St. Pete, Largo, Clearwater and out toward Seminole or Gulfport keep asking me how to pick between all these baseboard styles. It's not as complicated as the big stores make it, but I hate seeing folks slap on the wrong profile and end up with a room that just looks off. I've watched this a hundred times in homes from the Old Northeast out to Indian Rocks Beach.

Colonial with that curved ogee top still rules in the older homes down here, especially the ones near Snell Isle or along Central Avenue. It pairs right with traditional casings and feels grounded without looking fake. Flat modern square or craftsman styles? Those clean lines work better in the newer builds or beach condos where you want it simple and not fussy. Taller boards, say five to seven inches, help rooms with higher ceilings feel finished without looking skimpy. Match it to your door casing or it clashes hard. Some folks try mixing them and it just never sits right.

Down here the humidity and salt air chew up the wrong materials, so even if you love a fancy profile, go with something that holds up like PVC or primed stock. Don't let style override what lasts in Pinellas weather. Cheap stuff from the big box looks fine for a minute then gaps or warps after the summer rains.

If you're stuck deciding between colonial, modern square, or something custom, come by or call. We'll figure what fits your place real quick and get you taken care of.
